Shannon Barnes, PhD, is the owner of Tranquility Counseling Services, LLC. She is a licensed professional counselor. Dr. Barnes earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of North Georgia. Dr. Barnes continued to earn her Master of Science degree in clinical counseling from Brenau University. Dr. Barnes then obtained her state licensure as a professional counselor. In 2014 Dr. Barnes earned a doctorate degree in counseling studies. She continues to practice under her professional counselor license. Dr. Barnes has extensive experience with working with individuals and couples regarding a variety of needs. Dr. Barnes has obtained continued training to increase her effectiveness with marriage counseling, oppositional behaviors, substance abuse, and trauma. Dr. Barnes continues to increase her knowledge base through continued education and research studies. Dr. Barnes has developed a holistic treatment appraoch that has been show in her research to increase life satisfaction and increase marrital satisfaction while decreasiong depression and anxiety.
Dr. Barnes is a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor. She offers supervision and consultation to other professionals as well as to her staff.

Kim Meredith is a Graduate with High Distinction from Liberty University, where she earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. She was fortunate to be invited to come alongside families and individuals as a chaplain in a trauma hospital during her internship. She is currently under the direction and supervision of Dr. Shannon Barnes.
Kim has experience working with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families. She is a trained Prepare-Enrich facilitator, providing couples, premarital, and blended family counseling. She has experience aiding others in discovering the strengths and overcoming the challenges involved in interacting with individuals who have different personalities from their own. Her approach to counseling is holistic, addressing mind, body, social, and spiritual well-being. Developing resilience, learning to access strengths, considering how thoughts influence choices, and finding meaning in the challenges of life, can all positively impact the quality of our lives. Weaving hope together through life experiences is key.
Kim enjoys swimming, reading, hiking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is an active volunteer in her church and community, which allows her to enjoy connection.
Katy Miles is a Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW) and has been working in the mental health field since 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies from the University of Georgia, and her Masters of Clinical Social Work from Kennesaw State University.
Katy works with adult individuals and couples as well as adolescents. She has completed the Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training, a research-based approach to helping couples manage conflict and deepen intimacy. Katy practices LGBTQ affirming therapy and welcomes clients and families of all sexual orientation, gender identity, and relationship status.
She strongly believes in the healing and restorative power of therapeutic relationship and works with clients to explore issues of identity formation, anxiety, depression, grief, body image issues, and life transition.
In therapy, Katy works with clients to understand the life experiences that shape and may contribute to current difficulties or feelings of being stuck. She partners with clients to identify what's working well in their life and areas that may need attention. Katy takes a creative approach to her work and includes expressive art interventions and mindfulness techniques.
Katy is not an "in-network" provider for insurances at this time and does not bill insurance companies directly. However, you may have "out-of-network" benefits which allow you to see any therapist, pay directly, and then be reimbursed directly by your insurance provider. She can provide you with an invoice so that you have documentation to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Neil Richey is one of our interns. He is currently working on the M.A. degree in Professional Counseling from Amridge University. With his background in ministry, he has counseled with church members and people in the community for nearly two decades. He is experienced in working with clients from a variety of backgrounds.
When Neil is not working with the church, or seeing clients, you will likely find him doing something fun with his family. He is married to his college sweetheart, and they have two children, and two dogs. They enjoy spending time together, whether it is traveling, going kayaking, fishing, or soaring in the sky. Neil is a licensed private pilot. Additionally, Neil spends a lot of time writing. He has contributed chapters to numerous books, and articles to several religious publications. He has authored and co-authored a number of books as well.
As Neil pursues his M.A. in Professional Counseling, he is excited to be working under the direction and supervision of Dr. Shannon Barnes and providing counseling services along with the excellent staff at Tranquility Counseling Services, LLC.
Neil’s wish for his clients is that they have a life that is well-lived. He believes in the adage, “A life well-lived is a life that is lived well.” He seeks to help individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with the “have-to’s” of life, learn how to “live well.” Neil is willing to work with most client needs. Amelia DeRamus, LAPC, is a graduate from the University of North Georgia where she did both her bachelor’s and master’s degree.
She is under the supervision of Dr. Shannon Barnes working with couples, families, adolescents, adults, and groups. Amelia has experience working with adolescents, young adults, and adults who are struggling with life stress. Amelia has experience with working in Adventure Based Counseling which implements adventure activities and incorporates them into counseling techniques and theories. She is also currently serving as a Chaplain Candidate in the USAF which opens the opportunity in her counseling office to see military and veteran clients.
Amelia’s goal in counseling is to promote a healthy lifestyle that is unique to each individual. She implements a holistic approach that opens the doors to looking at multiple areas within a client’s life for growth and improvement.
